Why nothing you load into Soft Touch is ever uploaded
Most photo apps upload your picture, process it on a server, and send the result back. Soft Touch does none of that. The whole pipeline — loading, detecting the face and body, deforming and re-lighting the skin — runs in the browser tab on your own device.
What runs where
When you choose a file, the browser reads it straight into graphics memory. The face and body detection uses a model that is downloaded once (about 20 MB) and then runs locally. The deformation and lighting are done by your device’s GPU through WebGL.
The only thing that ever leaves your device is a short, anonymous hash used to count how many images you have loaded — never the image itself. We could not look at your photos even if we wanted to.
What happens when you close the tab
The image lives only in the memory of that tab. Close it and the picture is gone. Reloading the same image within 24 hours does not cost points, because the app recognises the file by its hash — but the file itself still has to come from your device again.
Why we built it this way
The app is made for touching images of people, including yourself. That is exactly the kind of picture nobody should have to hand to a stranger’s server. Keeping everything local was the simplest way to make the promise “nothing you upload is ever stored” literally true: nothing is uploaded in the first place.
